I am relatively new here, and have met a few interesting, intelligent people. I am curious as to the nature of people's nicknames. I know a lot of people have the generic "AmericaFan123", but there are a few that I have noted that probably have an interesting story behind them.
My name "dAt crAzy bOk" is from my childhood/teenaged years. I am 29 now, and a relatively respectable, productive member of society. However, I wasn't always this way, and went through quite a bit of trouble as a younger person.
The nickname started when I was about 14. This is about when I started to get into trouble. I boxed competitively from about 8-14. At 14, I hooked up with a tag (grafiti) gang (krew, as we call them). CSUK. Can't Stop Us Krew. I got in some trouble for fighting, and was kicked out of the boxing program as a result.
I started tagging a lot, and pretty soon earned myself a reputation. I would fist-fight anybody, for the stupidest reasons. I had serious anger issues, as well as some unresolved issues from my early childhood. It really affected my early life, as my aggression was usually the source of my troubles.
Eventually, other tag krews started talking about me. I would hear my tag name on the bus alot, which was AIMER, but they always referred to me as "that crazy boxer"...
Being the (LOL) "rebel" that I was, I decided to change the spelling to "dAt crAzy bOksEr". The capitalization was for emphasis, it looks much better on the wall, just to give some contrast.
Now, tagging is different than grafiti, and the point of tagging is simply to get your name up on as many walls as possible, as fast as possible. It was a little hard trying to carry a backpack and a beer and trying to spray-paint "dAt crAzy bOksEr" at the same time.
So I shortened it to "bOk" when I would tag, and "dAt crAzy bOk" when I would graf. Everyone knew me as "bok" (pronounced like J.S. Bach) or "dAt crAzy bOk".
I promise my articles will get a little more meaningful. This is my first article and I wanted to make it a lay up. Thanks for anyone that answers. I will read them all, and look forward to any insight into your mind. I love other view points, and learning, and know that this is a place for both.
